A Relaxing Lunch Out

There is nothing relaxing about eating out with a 9mnth old. We went to Chili's, because i was hankering for a cheeseburger. Drew was very well behaved, didn't make much noise and was cute as always, but there was nothing relaxing about it. Before we got food he entertained himself with those little cardboard coasters, in this case, Sam Adams. Then the food came and immediately he reached for my plate (no one said he's not bright). So Erika gave him a Zwiback (as seen in the video) but that didn't last long. He started to let us know vocally that he wanted more than dried toast. So we started give him pieces of our food. From my plate, mushed french fries and from Erikas small pieces of a cheese quesadilla. He LOVED it, but it was no different than if we ate at home. And it was even more stressful because if he starts loudly expressing his deisre for more food, which he is skilled at, its fine and cute at home, but in a restaurant thats not cool.

So, in the future; Drew stays home, we go out. Grammie, you are on notice.

More that you won't see on that 'other' site!

Drew and I spent most of the day together as Erika was out driving in her new car, and to a crop. So while I had the opportunity, I took some pictures of the Drewbee, only to be seen on this blog.

Erika has been Scooped!!

This is our new car, or we should say, Drew's new car.  We are very excited!    Check Erika's blog out later because she'll have the news later (even though it will be OLD news).

Drewbee going for Big Boy Ride!!

This past weekend we reached a big milestone.  Drew went to the grocery store, and he rode the entire time in the cart seat.  His Grandma B made him a very cute seat cover to protect him from grocery store cooties.    Don't mind the tounge, its always there.  Always.

Queen - American Idol

Anytime someone on American Idol has the nerve to sing a Queen song, I have to spend the next day or so going through my Queen music to cleanse my auditory pallet.     Just thought I would share as I sit here doing my work listening to authentic Queen.

One Small Step for Drew...

Drew crawled today!   Big boy crawling, not the army crawling he's been doing.  Erika and I were talking in the kitchen and we looked over and he was up on all fours doing his thing.  He's been rocking back and forth so much, it didn't even register with me what he was doing.  Erika had to point it out to me.  Go Drew!!!!

Finally an Update

I'm sitting here watching the grammy red carpet with Erika.  One realization that Erika and I are having is that we are getting very old.  We don't recognize anyone.   And the people we do recognize are very old (I'm looking at you Cindy  Lauper!!).

The man cave is dead.  I moved the big TV up to the the 'family room', the room on the end of the house thats been used as a storage area for the past several months.  With Drew its been tougher to sneak into the basement to get away.  From the family room, I can sit drew on the couch with me,  I can watch him from the living room, Erika can beckon me with ease, and its a room that we just didn't use enough.

I'm on a new project for work.  The project is exciting and new, but I've been having to go in a lot.  The past week I only went in once, but the two prior it was two weeks solid of 12 hour days, and now this week turns out I have go in all 5 days.  A lot of days when I go in for long days I don't get to see Drew at all.  He's still sleeping when I leave, and he's asleep when I get back.  It sucks.
Anyways, thats it for now.  My bride was pressuring me to update my blog.   Hopefully she won't leave any mean comments.

Coolest thing EVER!

Link to Video I couldn't embed for some reason...

In all my years of computers, I never bothered with web cams. In the past two months, both Doug and Erika got new laptops both with embeded webcams. So Doug and I tried it tonight and it worked. It worked great!! Now we need Grandma Barbara to get one, and Dawn to get one.

Why do babies have trouble sleeping?

This is just something i'm pondering as I stand on the porch,
listening to the silence of a cold winter night. Actually this is
just an excuse to try posting a blog entry via email via my
blackberry. I'm so hi-tech.

A Boy and his Mom

I see seafood!

Aunt Marilyn made this dish several years ago for Erika and I, I think back when we were 'vegetarians' but still ate fish. This year I finally got my dirty mitts on the recipe. Its a pretty basic dish, crab meat, shrimp, celery, onions, green peppers, and mayo with a cracker crumb crust.

I've made it twice so far. First time, it was excellent. This second time I added bay scallops because my theory is, the more seafood the better, and a touch of corn starch to thicken it up a bit.

Problem: The scallops weren't cooked, but everything else in there was (shrimp, crab). I figured I would be fine if I cooked it a little longer. Normally 30 min, I set it at 35.

I wasn't even close. I ended up cooking it for an hour and I 'think' the scallops are done. Lesson learned - cook the scallops BEFORE adding them to this dish.

Despite the scallop fiasco, it was SOOO good.

I Love Burn Pile Day!!!!!!!!!!!

Every year I get to burn a large pile of wood. I love it. I love the fire. I love having my Dad there. I love getting rid of the wood. I wish I could do this for a living. Although this year we had a little trouble starting it. Normally I make these fire-starter things with egg cartons and dryer lint. They make starting fires easy, but this year I was lazy. I handed Dad some matches and a piece of birch bark. Its started, but it was just a little slow in catching. But soon enough it was going full blast. Dad and I sat in lawn chairs, shot the breeze and enjoyed the show (and the warmth).
